Each January, Lake Carolina rings in the new year with their Polar Bear Plunge. This annual event brings in approximately 200 “polar bears” who bravely take on icy waters as part of a fundraiser for the Children’s Charities of the Midlands. Here are three reasons to join them:

1) Start 2017 with something daring.

Is your bucket list urging you to get more adventurous in the new year? Then the Polar Bear Plunge is right up your alley. For many, the thought of diving into freezing waves (especially amidst a cold winter) isn’t particularly appealing. Others, however, find it to be a thrilling adrenaline rush. Whether it spooks or excites you, it’s definitely a memorable (and fun) experience with friends and family!

2) It’s for a great cause.
Three of Lake Carolina’s annual events raise money for the Children’s Charities of the Midlands. This nonprofit organization strives to improve the health and well-being of South Carolina’s youth. The Polar Bear Plunge continually raises thousands of dollars and one team, The Chippenwhales, even holds a benefit brunch to raise more donations before the plunge itself.

3) Festive treats will be provided.
Don’t say no to free food...especially when it’s holiday-themed! To ensure “polar bears” (and other guests) are warm and toasty, hot cocoa, coffee and pizza will be available. Even if you're just staying dry, come out and support those who are taking on this challenge. It’s the perfect time to mix, mingle and give back to the greater community.

Are you willing to take the plunge and make a difference? Be on the lookout for more information on the 2017 Polar Bear Plunge via Lake Carolina’s Facebook page. To learn more about the community’s new homes in Columbia, click here.
